‍
Spooky Rebels Studio was founded following a series of successful game jam collaborations, where I played a key role as the team’s lead UX and graphic design artist. As our creative partnership strengthened, we transitioned into an independent game development studio dedicated to making the horror genre more welcoming and accessible for players sensitive to traditional dark or graphic visuals. We crafted unique experiences by blending classic horror motifs with relatable, everyday themes, such as the monotony of daily routines.

Our debut game, Dead End Job, deeply influenced the Spooky Rebels Studio brand. Both the font selection and color palette were drawn directly from the game's UI, ensuring a strong visual connection between the studio and its flagship title. For Dead End Job, we aimed for a look that balanced friendliness with a spooky undertone, ultimately selecting the Ghoulish Fright font to achieve this effect. To make the font distinctive for the Spooky Rebels brand, I incorporated custom iconography, adding a unique and memorable touch.
In developing our mascot, we prioritized simplicity and recognizability—key qualities for any effective mascot design. Drawing on the classic associations of demons with rebellion and the 'spooky' aesthetic, I took inspiration from icons like Black Desert Online's Black Spirit. I explored several iterations of a flame sprite, experimenting with different expressions and forms. I refined the final design to feel more approachable and endearing, with larger, narrower eyes and a smaller mouth to give the mascot a cute, memorable personality.
